We use a combination of official pension databases, provider searches, historic employer records, and specialist tracing tools. Where pensions are harder to locate, our forensic tracing team steps in to follow paper trails that automated systems miss. This is not a generic database search — it’s a structured, hands-on tracing process.

Our standard service costs £225, which includes tracing up to 5 pensions. Additional pensions are charged at £40 per pension. All pricing is clear and agreed upfront.

Because proper pension tracing takes time, expertise, and manual intervention. Free services rely heavily on automated searches and stop where things get difficult. Pension Pie goes further — especially when pensions are old, fragmented, or poorly documented. You’re paying for experienced people doing real work, not a quick database lookup.

To start tracing your pensions, you’ll usually need some basic personal details, including:

  • Your full name (and any previous names)

  • Your date of birth

  • Your current address (and, if possible, previous addresses)

  • The names of past employers, if you remember them

  • Approximate dates you worked there

 

Don’t worry if you don’t have everything — many people don’t remember all the details. The tracing process is designed to work even if your information is incomplete.

The more information you can provide, the quicker and more accurately your pensions can be located.

Most pensions are traced within 2–6 weeks. Some are found much sooner. More complex cases — such as older pensions, company schemes, or missing employer records — can take longer. We keep you updated throughout the process.

No. Pension Pie does not provide regulated financial advice. We focus on tracing and organising your pension information. If you later want advice,  we can make an appointment with one of our trusted qualifed adviser partners, but you are free to speak to a regulated financial adviser of your choosing.

You receive a clear summary of what’s been located, who the providers are, and how much your pensions are worth (where available). From there, you decide your next steps — whether that’s leaving things as they are, consolidating elsewhere, or seeking advice.

In the majority of cases, pensions are found. Where something genuinely no longer exists or was never set up, we’ll tell you — clearly and honestly — and explain why.

£75,000+ in known pensions” means the total value of the pension savings you are already aware of — based on the most recent statements or valuations you have received.

This figure should only include pensions you currently know about and can identify. It does not include any pensions you are asking us to trace.

For example, if you already have £80,000 across one or more existing pension pots, and you believe you may have additional pensions from previous employers that you cannot currently locate, you may qualify — provided the £75,000 threshold is met before including those unknown pensions.
